Celebrating the 2021 Person of Vision: Dr. Michael Jacobson
Each year, PBGA recognizes one doctor in the ophthalmic community who champions healthy vision and its importance to life and who exemplifies an exceptional commitment to patient care. This year's recipient is Dr. Michael Jacobson, one of the founding partners of Georgia Retina.
Driven by intellectual curiosity and compassion for his patients, Jacobson has been named one of Atlanta's Top Doctors by Castle Connolly and Atlanta Magazine every years since 2011. In 2020, he was inducted into the prestigious Marquis Who's Who. Jacobson's patient-centric care is such that he argues the better he knows his patients and their needs, the better the care he is able to deliver.
Jacobson is an active researcher who has published numerous articles for peer-reviewed journals. He is also the author of chapter for one of the foremost ophthalmic textbooks. He argues that remaining sharp and on the cutting-edge is vital in retinal surgery which sometimes requires peeling membranes thinner and more delicate than wet tissue paper.
Jacobson says he feels fortunate to be a part of the team of Georgia Retina which he describes as incredibly collaborative. He says the group regularly meets to pool knowledge to ensure patients receive the best possible care.

To reduce the risk of COVID-19, Prevent Blindness Georgia invites vaccinated guests to attend the gala in-person. Proof of vaccination status must be shared at the door. If you are unvaccinated and wish to attend the event in-person, we request that you provide evidence of a negative result on a COVID test taken within 72 hours (prior) of the event. PBGA is also offering unvaccinated guests an opportunity to join the gala virtually on this site. All guests are asked to wear masks when not eating or drinking.
